On Thursday, June 22, 2017, of Hyattsville, MD at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, and earning the rank of Signalman First Class. He became a member of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity. Fr. Christopher Professed in 1949 and was Ordained in 1955. He spent 50 years as a missionary in Puerto Rico before returning to the Washington, DC area. Relatives and friends may call at Father Judge Missionary Cenacle, 1733 Metzerott Road, Adelphi, MD, on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 10-11 am where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL at a later date.

Also survived by 12 nieces and nephews. Additionally he leaves behind a devoted and loving community of friends and colleagues. Russ’s distinguished career included Senior Council representing the life insurance industry for 17 years and an additional 15 years representing a leading financial service company and trade association. He culminated his career with eight years as Executive Director of North American Securities Administrators Association. ALICE KELLY (Age 105)

Alice (Oesch) Kelly, 105 years old (formerly from Merritt Island, FL), died on 06/17/2017 at the home of her daughter, Marilyn Kelly-Kearsley.  The oldest child of William W. and Elva (Garber) Oesch, she was born on October 24, 1911 in Garden City, Cass County, Missouri.  Her family moved to Bristol, Elkhart County, Indiana before her 3rd birthday, where she graduated from Bristol High School in 1929.  She met her future husband, Charles Eugene Kelly, when they were students at Bluffton College (now University) in Bluffton, Ohio.  They were married shortly before they graduated in 1933.

Alice taught in elementary schools in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Florida.  After retirement, she continued working with elementary school students as a volunteer until she was in her 90’s.

Alice studied music at Bluffton and singing was one of her favorite past-times.  She was a member of the Brevard Light-Opera and the Brevard Chorale.  She traveled with the Chorale Society through Europe and the United Kingdom.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Herbert and Harold, husband Charles, sons Allen, Harold, and Charles and her daughters Mary and Kathleen.  She is survived by her sister Rosemary, son, Michael, and daughters Linda (Ellen), Marilyn (Eric), and Carolyn (Al), 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service and burial will be in Lima, Ohio, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bluffton University 1 University Drive

REV.  GARY KENNETH JAVENS (Age 76)

Rev. Gary K. Javens, beloved husband, father, grandfather, pastor and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Grace Evelyn (Cox) Javens, his two daughters and son-in-laws, Melanie and Calvin Matthews and Cheryl  and Tom Steinhice,  five grandchildren:  Andrew Steinhice and Caily Afualo; Sarah Steinhice Wilton, CJ and Katie Matthews; Rachel Steinhice; Joy and Ryker Dodge; and four great-grandchildren,  Thomas Matthews, Grace and Riley Wilton, and Lelea Steinhice, two brothers:  Bob and Roger Javens, two sisters and brother-in-laws:   Nancy and Jack Fenchel and Karen and Ed Speelman, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Gary was born on October 23, 1940 in Beaver Falls, PA to the late Kenneth Price Javens and Rachel Eleanor (Billman) Javens. He met the love of his life, Grace Evelyn Cox, in high school and they were married in 1959.  Gary worked in the steel mill of Babcock & Wilcox Co. for seven years, until he was called into the gospel ministry at the age of 27. In 1968, Gary, Grace and their two daughters moved to West Conshohocken, PA where he was the pastor of Balligomingo Baptist Church for six years while attending Eastern Baptist College and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Upon graduation in 1974, he and his family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland where he served as pastor of Clifton Park Baptist Church for 31 years, until 2005. During this time, Pastor Javens was always available to his congregation. He remembered the name of everyone he met and was always ready to give a reason for the hope that was in him (1 Peter 3:15).  Many came to know the Lord because of his ministry. After retirement, he served for another two years as the interim pastor of Forest Heights Baptist Church.

Gary devoted his retirement years to spending time with Grace, enjoying time with his family, traveling, fishing, hunting, and golfing which he did until the day the Lord called him home.  Gary will be remembered as a joyful person, with a great love for his family and for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He loved music, nature, playing games, meeting people, telling jokes, gardening, and working crossword puzzles.  His family and everyone who knew him will miss this extraordinary man who impacted their lives in many ways.

Services will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Clifton Park Baptist Church, 8818 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring, MD  20903, Visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m.

The burial will be in his hometown of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on Saturday, June 24, 2017; visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. and a service will follow at 11 a.m.  A private burial for family members will be at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester, PA.

Larry Dean Nix was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on June 10, 2017. Originating from Asheville, North Carolina, Mr. Nix moved to the Washington, DC area in 1971 where he met his wife, Katie Chiera. Over the course of his lifetime, he enjoyed a successful career as an economist. Larry was a patient, kind, and loving man that will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his wife Katie; son Benjamin and his wife Becky; son Christopher; daughter Kathleen and her husband Joe; grandsons Connor and Isaac; granddaughter Nora; sister Norma Jean; brother Daniel; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Clyde. Service will be held at Francis J. Collins Funeral Home in Silver Spring, MD on Friday, June 16, at 1 p.m. Interment at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Rockville, MD will follow.
